Talon Group Advisory

Leadership for the decisions that move a business forward.

Executive advisory, growth consulting and management support for businesses outside the Talon portfolio.

Advisory & Management

Business decisions deserve more than another presentation.

Owners and management teams encounter decisions that sit across sales, finance, people, operations and market direction. A growth opportunity may expose a delivery constraint. A planned expansion may require a different management structure. Talon Group works directly with external businesses to assess those decisions, identify the work involved and help leadership put an agreed plan into practice.

An advisory engagement does not require Talon to invest in, acquire or take equity in the business. The client retains ownership and decision-making authority. Each assignment is defined through a proposal that identifies the scope, responsibilities, working arrangements and fees before work begins.

Areas of support

Leadership applied to the work.

Business growth consulting

Determine which growth opportunities deserve investment and what the business must be able to deliver.

Assess markets, customer demand, revenue opportunities, commercial capacity and the practical sequence of changes needed to pursue a defined growth objective. Recommendations should account for the operating costs and management demands of growth, not only its potential upside.

Executive and owner advisory

An outside management perspective for decisions that carry lasting consequences.

Work with owners and senior leaders on priorities, business models, organizational decisions, management reviews, risk and investment choices. The engagement can support a specific decision or provide a continuing advisory relationship under a defined remit.

Fractional leadership and management

Defined executive or management responsibility without a permanent full-time appointment.

Where the requirements and available leadership capacity make it appropriate, establish a part-time management mandate with written decision rights, reporting responsibilities and a clear division of authority. Appointments and disciplines are agreed individually; no particular executive role is represented as permanently staffed.

Operations and organizational improvement

Address the conditions that make performance difficult to sustain.

Review how work is assigned, measured, approved and delivered. Examine management processes, information flow, service quality, staffing needs and technology dependencies. Identify changes that can be implemented and assessed rather than producing a disconnected list of recommendations.

Commercial development and market entry

Build a workable route into new customer groups, markets or partnerships.

Evaluate positioning, channels, sales organization, commercial partnerships and market-entry assumptions. The assignment may include a proposed route to market, defined responsibilities, budget considerations and the sequence of decisions required before expansion.

Venture and acquisition-related advisory

Assess new ventures, ownership transitions and the operational work around a transaction.

Support commercial evaluation, operating-model planning, integration considerations and post-transaction management priorities. Regulated legal, tax, audit or investment advice is outside the scope unless separately provided by appropriately qualified professionals.

Working arrangements

A defined engagement, with accountability from the outset.

There is no published rate card. Every assignment begins with a discussion of the business, the decisions at hand and the level of involvement needed. Talon then proposes the work, its responsibilities and its commercial terms.

Engagement models

Scoped for the business.

Focused advisory project

A bounded question or opportunity, with an agreed assessment, recommendations and decision points.

Continuing executive advisory

A recurring working relationship with scheduled management reviews and a defined advisory scope.

Fractional management mandate

Agreed operational or executive responsibilities, reporting arrangements and authority limits.

How an engagement begins

Clear work. Clear authority.

  1. Understand

Discuss the business, the decision, available records and desired outcome.

  2. Scope

Set out the proposed work, boundaries, responsibilities, fees and decision rights.

  3. Work

Carry out the agreed analysis, management support or execution planning with the client.

  4. Review

Assess findings and progress against the agreed remit; decide what follows.

An independent relationship

Independent advice. Specialist execution where useful.

Talon Group provides group-level management and business advice. Its portfolio includes businesses in software, digital services, sports operations and customer communications. Where a client needs specialist implementation, a relevant business may be introduced as an option, but no client is required to purchase portfolio services.

Separate businesses retain their own contracts, permissions and client information. Referrals and any sharing of information take place with the client’s authorization. Neither consulting work nor use of a portfolio service creates an investment or ownership relationship.
